Choose IMAP that provides better security than POP

Set a strong password of the minimum length 8
(including at least one uppercase letter,
at least one lowercase letter, at least one digit, at least one special symbol)

Set the default view settings to "plain text"
(Disable "HTML" if not definitely necessary)

Do not reuse the same password for different accounts

Do not log in by using a computer shared with unknown people
in a general public place

Read an email with security caution even if its sender looks someone who is familiar to you
→ Do not click a hyperlink embedded in a received email
→ Copy the link, paste it into a URL field, and
double check whether it is trustworthy
