An Application to a Summer Internship

Assumptions
  • BioTech, Inc. is a corporation that develops equipment for DNA analysis.
    It offers an undergraduate student a summer internship at its branch in Singapore.
    The summer internship provides an intern with a round-trip airfare to Singapore, lodging for one month and a stipend US$1,000.

  • The following are qualifications of a student for the summer internship.
    • An applicant is a senior or junior of a BS program.
    • The applicant majors biology, computer science, mathematics or any field relevant to DNA analysis.
    • The applicant has GPA 3.0 or better.
    • The applicant has decent communication skills in English.

  • BioTech, Inc. requires applicants to submit a detailed plan of a project to be done within one month during the summer internship.
    An applicant may choose any topic of the project as long as it is relevant to her/his major.

  • Applicants must email proposals of their project plans to the following person in charge of the summer internship.

Tasks
  1. Write a detailed plan of a project that you propose to BioTech, Inc. in English.
    Then, produce a PDF file of its typeset document of minimum 3 pages long.

    The detailed plan must include at least the following information
    • The title of the project
    • The name, affiliation and contact information
    • An abstract of the document
    • A goal of the project
    • A list of equipment and software necessary for the project and their estimated costs
    • A list of tasks to be done and their schedule
    • Explanation of technically challenging issues in the project
    • Key idea(s) for achieving the goal
    • A list of expected outcomes of the project
    • A list of references

  2. Send an email with only one attachment of the PDF file (produced above) to my email address
    as if it is the email address of the addresse (given above).
    The email must contain a message in plain text that plays a role of a cover letter for your application.
    In addition, the email must have "HCU2016s Summer Internship" on its subject line.
