Ji Young Kim (Ph.D. University of Florida) is an assistant professor in the School of Communications at the University of Hawai‘i. Prior to joining UH-M, she was an assistant professor at Bradley University for three years.
She holds a B.A. in Business Administration and Mass Communication from Sogang University in Korea, a M.S. in New Media from Syracuse University, and a Ph.D. in Mass Communication from the University of Florida. Her primary research interests fall under public relations and strategic communications in both international and national contexts.
Dr. Kim has presented several research papers at major national and international research conferences in the field, and some of the work won best research awards at the Association for Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC, 2009 & 2015), the International Communication Association (ICA, 2010 & 2011), and the International Public Relations Research Conference (IPRRC, 2011). She has had articles published in several journals including, Public Relations Review, Public Relations Journal, Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly, Corporate Reputation Review, Journalism Studies, and Journal of Information Technology & Politics.
Dr. Kim’ teaching areas include Public Relations Research, Public Relations Campaigns, International Public Relations, and Communication Research. She has also developed and led a study abroad course in Seoul, Korea (May 2014), and taught a seminar course, called “Korean Culture Wave” (Spring 2015).
