Yoshihara's Lab, University of Hawaii at Manoa

Prospective Students

Thank you for your interest in my research group. If you’re considering joining us, please reach out to me by email (see contact information).

I am looking for individuals who are motivated and passionate about advancing the field of particle and astrophysics. If you match one or more of the following criteria, you may find our research group a perfect fit:

International Students

If you are an international student interested in joining my research group, the first step is to apply to the UH PhD program. Please follow the instructions provided on the UH Graduate Admissions page. At UH, advisors are not assigned at the time of admission. During your first two years, you will focus on coursework and preparing for the qualifying exam. Once admitted, refer to the section on UH Graduate Students for more details. The UH PhD program provides stipends through TA and RA positions. Additionally, tuition waivers may be granted if you meet the required TA/RA contribution hours.

UH Graduate Students

Before Qualifying Exam:
Motivated students can start research with my group from their first year in the PhD program and receive a research stipend. However, most students work as Teaching Assistants (TA) simultaneously. Research topics will be decided in consultation with me. After passing the qualifying exam, you can transition to a full-time Research Assistant (RA) role to engage in advanced research.

After Qualifying Exam:
Once you pass the qualifying exam, you can start full-time research as a RA. If you are interested in joining my lab, please consult with me about available PhD positions and research topics.

UH Undergraduate Students

Motivated undergraduate students are welcome to join my research group depending on their interests. Research topics, including data analysis and hardware development, will be decided in consultation with me. Participation is voluntary (no stipend), but based on the student's skills and chosen topic, there is a possibility to receive a research stipend.
