What programs, events, or workshops would you like to see at the Leeward CC Library?
43 responses
-
I would like to see a workshop on proper care and basic maintenance of books.
-
workshops like how to keep quiet on 2nd floor study area
-
Theme days, like Lord of the Rings day, Star Wars day, Harry Potter day, maybe even books from courses that are required reading.
-
Presentation about 4year university and scholarships.
-
Coloring book sessions, more speaker sessions
-
More events/activities of any kind at Waianae Campus
-
How to best utilize the giant list of online databases for specific courses or topics. Ex: eraf, kanopy, etc. The workshops I attended focused on Academic Search Complete and Ebsco Host. But it took me time on my own to learn about the other databases that are available.
-
More options for students who work full time during the day i.e. extended hours, advisors who are available, tutoring, etc.
-
Over the course of my two years at LCC I haven’t heard about or experienced a library tour. Only during freshmen orientation was I told about the library and it’s resources. We did not have a chance to enter the library during orientation so I think a tour for new incoming students would be beneficial.

Perhaps host workshops teaching patrons about important Hawaiian/Pacific resources (e.g., databases, websites, specialized bibliographies, etc.).
-
Book sales
-
Continued college success oriented and Native Hawaiian presentations.
-
Instructional sessions like a research quest or a "how to use the databases" offered several times a semester. I would love my DE students to have the opportunity to attend this type of session.
-
Hawaiian, research, genealogy
-
not really a program, per se, but instructional videos on the website about how to use the various resources
-
Waianae High School actually hosts reading nights where the students will act out the book of the month. Before they do this the event offers small snacks, activities, and has books for us to take home. Something like this would be awesome and possibly intrigue the younger generation to read books more.
-
I would like that the library have more variety in books genres.
-
Computer skills class
-
More student involved events
-
Movie nights
-
more events
-
Research workshops
-
More Kanopy
-
Maybe, one workshop on academic college culture for incoming freshman since Student Life does a great job in orientation, but many students still think not doing work can be made up at the end of the semester.
-
More tech classes how tos and support
-
I liked on the "Library Week" when there was an ebook we could borrow. Maybe the library could offer a book club for students? Engage students in active discussions with books and how it relates to themselves, community, society, etc.
-
Cultural lectures about different cultures, Native Hawaiian, Filipino, etc.
-
more explanations of resources besides books
-
Book club for students
-
Writing workshos
-
Additional resources, displays, and activities to celebrate more events and people (national, local, cultural, global, multicultural) in ways that encourage students to interact with each other.
- None, not sure, or not applicable (9)

What can be improved at the Leeward CC Library?
50 responses
- The ceiling leaks when it rains hard.
-
longer open hours during the weekdays
-
I have no recommendations to improve, it’s a great library.
-
Increasing the number of computers available with sufficient desk space to study would be a great improvement. The computers on the first floor meet that need, but are often far too few throughout the day to meet student needs. Since library space is limited, having a separate computer study lab that offers sufficient desk space would be a very useful during peak hours. Or making another study room available on campus, and increasing the first floor computer and desk capacity would be another way to help.
-
An increase in hour/days of availability would be the next big helpful improvement for many students. Weekend availability would be great.
-
More computer and study area.
-
The signs can be bigger, makes them easier to read from afar
-
More table spaces (with ability to plug in laptop) to study
-
N/a in Pearl City; however, more historical, cultural or achival break out sessions, events or activites at Waianae Campus would be useful
-
I think LCC's library should be open on the weekends. I like coming here to do homework or study and wish I could come here on the weekends to do so.
-
The temperature is always very cold for me. UHWO's library air conditioning is comfortable compared to LCC's.
-
Extend hours, free printing for all students
-
Overall the library is great, along with the helpful staff. If there could be any improvements I think it would just be to add a library tour for new students.
-
Notification before books are due, rather than the day after.
-
More computers upstairs would be helpful.
-
Come to the library and read more books
-
Possibly more organization.
-
Allow Hawaiian/Pacific texts to be loaned out for longer than two weeks. Also, and I realize this is complicated, see if it is possible to allow for Leeward CC faculty to have access to online journals and/or digital libraries such as JSTOR and Project Muse. Lack of journals limits instructors' abilities to keep up to date in their disciplines and to conduct research (yes, some of still do research).
-
More study options
-
Have book fairs
-
The roof leaks like a sieve. Hint hint.
-
Short "how to" instructional videos on the website to replace some of the text-based explanations.
-
More activities
-
More books
-
Possibly open on weekends during midterm/finals week
-
Increased Electronic Journal Access
-
More access to resources like uh manoa
-
Textbooks
-
more desktop computers available
-
Having more group study areas.
-
Access to the elevator for people who find it hard to walk up or down the stairs.
-
Room reservations 2 people for appropriate use only
-
Nothing much; it's really MUCH better than it used to be.
-
More tech support
-
The fines are exorbitant. That's why I no longer go to the LCC library. I paid >$8!
-
I know this is not in your control, but the size of the library could improve. I think for the amount of students we service, the library should be bigger. Other CC campuses have larger libraries and I think LeeCC should get one too.
-
student outreach
-
There could be a broader, more current selection of ESL graded readers and other texts appropriate for adult ESL students.
-
WIDENING the Door Entrances to get to the 2nd and 3rd floor
-
It’s great!
-
Can't think of anything right now. It's been such an improvement since I've been here.
-
Saturday hours? Staffing and funding are critical factors for that
-
More desks and computers. Thank you for providing the rare elevator for ADA compliance! It's difficult to efficiently and quickly get around this campus if you're in a wheelchair.
-
Night hours for night students
- None, not sure, or not applicable (7)
