NE1006 + WCC20 2003 Annual Meeting
November 16-19, 2003
U.S. Fish and Wildlife National Conservation
and Training Center
Shepherdstown, West Virginia
Greetings:
Please take out your calendars and note the dates for the NE1006 meeting [Eradication, Containment and/or Management of Plum Pox Disease (Sharka)] meeting which will be held in conjunction with the WCC020 (Virus and virus like diseases of fruit trees, small fruits and grapevines) meeting. The combined meeting is now officially authorized by both WCC020 and NE1006. It will be held at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife National Conservation Training Center, Shepherdstown, West Virginia. Please see their web site at http://training.fws.gov and check out the "Guest Services" tab for location maps and other information. This was the venue for last year's NE1006 meeting. We are still awaiting word from the NCTC concerning the availability of guest rooms for us on site, if none are available, we will have to use guest rooms at other hotels in the area, but we are hopeful for rooms at the NCTC.
If you know of someone who has not received the invitation to this meeting that should have, please feel free to forward this information to them.
Registration:
This year meeting registration will cost $115.00 ($70.00 for those lodging at NCTC since their room rate includes all meals at NCTC). This will include refreshments at breaks, lunches for all three days of the meeting, dinner on Monday night (Nov. 17) prior to the guest speaker presentation, and a coffee and dessert social following the guest speaker's presentation.
Registration must be paid by check and checks should be made payable to FRIENDS OF AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH -BELTSVILLE. This is the only method of payment that we can accept, a check to this organization. Please note that the registration fee is the same regardless of how many days one attends the meeting.
Lodging:
We now have the final word for lodging arrangements for the subject meeting. Unfortunately, there are only 12 rooms available on site at the NCTC on a first come, first serve basis. We are sorry that there were not more but even though we had scheduled this conference a year ago priority is given to U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service conference attendees and we were not able to secure more than these few rooms on site. Please make your own reservations by calling NCTC Hotel Reservations at (304) 876-7900 and mention you are reserving a room for the "NE1006/WCC020 Annual Meeting."
Below is a website of local hotels with those closest to the NCTC highlighted.
Security / Attendee List:
The security office at the entrance to the Conference Center grounds will not let you enter unless they have your name on a list provided by the organizer. If your name does not appear on the attached list, PLEASE send your intention to attend to Jackie Geigel at jgeigel@afrs.ars.usda.gov.
Reports and Presentations:
Please let us know by e-mail if you are planning to give a report other than a state report. We are looking for people interested in presenting results of their recent findings either related to NE1006 or WCC020 related research projects. The organizing committee will, based on previous meetings, also be contacting individuals, requesting oral research updates. If you have graduate students working on relevant projects this is a great opportunity for them. Please note the topical sessions for the NE1006 portion of the meeting (see meeting outline below). For reports/presentations that will be used as state reports please either e-mail a copy of the report or bring a hard copy with you and please remember to include in the written report a description of the impact of the work which is a requirement for reports.
Tentative Program:
Sunday, November 16
Since so few people will be staying at the NCTC we have decided to cancel the Sunday evening mixer. What we do suggest is that if you are in the area on Sunday evening (Nov 16) and would like to get together with other conference attendees please check out the lounge at the Clarion Hotel (see hotel website).
