LABORATORY SAFETY and LABORATORY RULES:



NEVER EAT, NEVER DRINK IN THE LABORATORY.

DO NOT BRING ANY FOOD NOT DRINK INTO THE LABORATORY!

NO SMOKING IN THE LABORATORY.

Avoid putting fingers or any object in your mouth.

Avoid rubbing your eyes or picking your nose while in the lab.


Disinfect your work area at the beginning and at the end of each lab period.

Wash your hands before starting to work and every time you leave the laboratory.



If you spill microorganisms, cover the spilled material with paper towels and pour disinfectant over the towels and the contaminated area. Wait several minutes before cleaning the area with fresh paper towels.

ALWAYS NOTIFY THE INSTRUCTOR IF YOU HAVE HAD AN ACCIDENT!


Familiarize yourself with the proper use of the bunsen burner.

Be sure to take proper precautions against loose clothing or long hair coming in contact with the flame.

If your are injured in any way, notify the instructor immediately.

Familiarize yourself with the proper discard procedure for contaminated materials.

Please don't mix contaminated materials with non-contaminated materials.


You must wear close-toed shoes in the lab at all times!

If you are not wearing shoes, you will not be able to participate in lab.


You must wear protective eyewear while performing experiments in the laboratory.


You must wear a lab coat and gloves while working in the lab.

Please store the lab coat in your assigned locker.
