Academic Background

When two parcels of water mix, they exchange nutrients, oxygen, and pollutants. How fast mixing occurs can be measured by using the decay rate of naturally-occurring radioisotopes as an internal clock.

- Vertical mixing and carbon dioxide dynamics in a groundwater estuary, west Hawai'i.

- Benthic metabolism of coral reefs in west Hawai'i.

- Modeling the intereactions between marine aggregates, bacteria, and viruses at Noumea, New Caledonia.

- Evaluating rates of seawater circulation through the seafloor at Huntington Beach, CA.
