Project Abstract

Scholars often receive invitations to participate in conferences and to contribute articles to journals or collections based on abstracts of their proposed projects. In some disciplines within English studies, published articles are preceded by abstracts. Writing these condensed summaries of your work--often before the work is actually begun--is a good exercise, compelling you to clarify the claims you are making and to shape the overall argument.

You are free to work on any topic you like; you are not bound to the issues raised in ENG 620. As you will not be producing a complete research paper for this course, you may want to use a research project from another seminar as the basis for the assignments you will do here. I strongly recommend, however, that you stick with the same topic throughout the series of assignments.

I will provide examples of abstracts for a number of different projects. You are to write an abstract for your own project, not exceeding one (1) page, and turn them in on October 4. I will return them the following week with comments and suggestions.
