Research Interests:
We are currently studying the photobiology of photosynthetic reef organisms particularly hermatypic corals. Of particular interest are questions relating to photoadaptation of the algae symbiotic with the coral hosts to the naturally occurring range of photic environments on the reef. This has led to an interest in the effects of increasing UV-B radiation in marine systems. A second research area is ecology of Hawaiian fresh waters, particularly the endemic fishes, mollusks and crustaceans. We are focussing on the complex life history patterns of these diadromous species.
