Dongping Zheng, Ph.D.

I hope this site serves not only as a portfolio of my research and teaching activities, but also as a window for a peek into my life for friends and family who may find it interesting. In real life, I try to separate work and life, and balance my life for my self, family and friends. On the journey of seeking such balance, I found how much things are interconnected. The research interest I embarked in and the kind of teacher I have been really reflects who I am. I love working with people, I love designing, I love problem solving, I love listening. Working with my 5-year-old students brought me so much joy for life, working with my 55-year-old students brought me so much wisdom for life. Can work and life really be separated? Maybe, may be not ...

Being a teacher in different cultures and contexts has helped me become a researcher who is sensitive to students' needs, to cultural awareness, to diversity and to seeking changes to help more children. I see pre-service teacher training and engaging in research as wonderful opportunities to help more children. My recent training at UCONN and my current work at MSU have advanced my ability to embark this journey.

Besides my academic life, I love yoga, qigong, tennis, cycling, travel, photography... I love natural and organic food which not only nourishes our bodies, but also the environment. Since I am away from my family, who are in China, the friends we make in local and online communities are part of our extended family. Thanks to the advancement of information and communication technology, the web of our friends is always connected. And, of course, our kitties leave paw prints on my heart, I wish you may feel the same when you meet them. I hope you will find something interesting in exploring the site.
