Reptiles move in many different ways. Snakes have no limbs, so they move by making a wave-like motion with their bodies. Some tree-climbing snakes wrap their tails around a tree then hook their necks to a higher part and pull their bodies up the tree. Larger snakes move by digging their scales into the ground and pulling their bodies forward. Turtles usually move by walking on their four limbs or swimming in the water. Lizards also move in different ways, depending on their bodies and habitats. Some lizards can run quickly on their hind legs. Others use scaled disks on each toe that helps them to cling to smooth surfaces. Some lizards can swim and others can climb trees.
