Date: Sat, 14 Jul 2001 23:50:47 -1000 (HST) From: Jackie M. Young To: Hawai'i Xenites: ; Subject: Curve--Aug., TVZone SP. #41, New Book Thanks to someone giving me the *exact* p. #, I *finally* found the LL mention in Curve Mag.--Aug. at Border's-Ward (also at Barnes & N-Kahala), on p. 35 in the Melissa Etheridge article. Has LL *waxing eloquent* about Etheridge's music during an Oxygen network taping of her concert, and mentions that XWP reruns will be on that cable network (which Hawai'i fans have to work to get on here ;P ). Also saw TVZone Sp. #41 there, with a nice article on RJStewart (ex. prod. and writer) and the background on developing several key XWP eps during S6, including Friend in Need. The article clearly states, from RJ's point of view, that "Psychologically, it would be [sic] have been tough for all of us, to go off and then keep doing it as movies. That was my opinion, and I know it was Lucy's and Renee's too....Certainly Lucy made it clear that she wasn't interested in doing a seventh season, and that sort of dictated everything from then on." IMO, this *busts* some of LL's comments about the show's end *big time*. ;P --JY --------------- From the Chakram mailing list: Subject: [chakram] New Xenaland Update Just a note to let you all know of a couple of Updates at New Xenaland http://newxenaland.jumpfun.com/ Interview: Albert and Campbell - XENA Stunt Actors Xena / Hercules Auction Items: A few notes on the Auckland auction to help in judging the authenticity of what's on offer on Ebay and elsewhere. A big thank you to New Xenaland Member Thelonius for these two updates He is also working on a webpage about his visit to the Auckland Auction I will advise you when this article is up Jester ----------------- From the Chakram mailing list [for all you "writer" types ;) --JY]: Subject: New Xena Book...Submissions Needed! I'm sending this message out to announce a new book. My name is Jen Hale (or some might remember me as my alter ego, Nikki Stafford). I wrote the book "Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Connor: Warrior Stars of Xena" that was published in Spring 1998. The book sold really well, and I got some great feedback from people when it came out, but the best part was working with so many of the fans while doing it. As of two months ago, the book was officially out of print (the episode guide went to the Bitter Suite, so it was considered too out of date to reprint). So I went to the publisher with another idea, and he liked it, so now I'm passing it on to you. I'd like to work on a book of stories written by Xena fans, stories of what the show has meant to you, how it has changed your life, what change it has brought about in your beliefs, etc. I know the stories are out there (hey, I've got a bunch of my own), and that Xena fans like to share them, so ECW Press has agreed to put together a book of them. First, some background: I originally conceived of doing a book like this for another TV show, and started soliciting stories. After many exhaustive email missives, getting it mentioned on sites, mailing lists, etc, I seemed to be going nowhere and people weren't responding. So I mentioned it to another Xena fan (who is on this list, actually! You know who you are ) in May and she said, "The fans of that show aren't really the sharing types that Xenites are. Why don't you do a book like that for Xena fans?" and I thought about it and decided, Why don't I? :) SO... consider this a notice that I'm looking for stories, and you can send your stories to me here at robjen1@internet.look.ca, or send me questions if you have any. Please put the words XENA BOOK in the subject line so I know it's a submission or question regarding the book. It's been my experience that Xena fans respond to things like this and like to share their views (some might recall WAAAAY back when I'd posted on here that I needed people to fill out a questionnaire for the book I was working on, and 150 PEOPLE answered it!! Now THAT is generosity.) Submission Requirements: Please make your stories about 1000 words long (if it needs to be longer please email me ahead of time to discuss it) and I'd like to get all of them in between now and September 30, 2001 to enable a Spring 2002 release of the book. I will be reading every submission that comes in. If your story is chosen to appear in the book, you'll receive a free copy. You may submit as many stories as you like. PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR FULL NAME (or screen name if that's what you'd prefer to appear in the book) AND PHONE NUMBER WITH EVERY SUBMISSION. I've worked on similar books where the person didn't give me any way to contact them other than their email account and then changed email accounts (or if not a phone number, then a permanent email account that won't be changed). I can promise you your personal information will be used for no other reason than in this book. I'm also looking for artwork and photos. If you have convention photos, photos of your room plastered with Xena merchandise, pictures of Xenites dressed up, etc. please email me and I'll let you know how to submit them. ALL PHOTOGRAPHS WILL BE RETURNED. Same goes for artwork, if you've made drawings or paintings of the people on the show. These are some categories I've thought of, but feel free to write about anything else that comes to mind: - -convention stories - -who your favourite characters are and why - -meeting other fans and how those meetings have changed your life - -the first time you watched Xena - -stories of meeting stars of the show - -the Internet presence of Xena and how it's affected you (perhaps you run your own website; that would make a great story) - -what your favourite debates have been about the show - -thoughts on how the show has changed - -how you'll continue to enjoy Xena fandom now that it's over I know I'll probably get a lot of stories of how the season finale completely destroyed your feelings about Xena (or maybe the opposite) and if that's the case, I'll put a section in the book for that, too. But even if that finale upset you, let's go back to when we first started watching the show and how it's made us feel. There are so many things we could write about this show, but I'd like the stories to be mostly about how it's affected you. I want this to be a book other Xena fans will read and think, "Me too!" And finally, I've spoken with Debbie Cassetta (aka Mistopholees) of the Sword and Staff -- who generously provided a chapter on the Meow Mix in my last book -- and ECW and I will be donating 30% of the royalties on the book to the Sword and Staff, who will be sending it to the Starship Foundation, Lucy's charity. So these stories will end up benefiting a good cause, as well as giving the fans things to remember about why we loved the show so much. For me, this book will be a fitting tribute to a show that has changed so many our lives. So please send me your Xena stories. I can't wait to read all of them. And just so you know, the stories will be edited for spelling and grammar, but will otherwise appear in the book the way you submitted it. This is going to be your book, a book written by fans for fans. If anyone has any suggestions for the book -- including title and what the cover should look like (can you tell I've already been given some deadlines? ) -- I'd appreciate any input. You can find out more about ECW Press at their web site at www.ecwpress.com, and like I said, please don't hesitate to email me with any questions. Thanks again. It's the fans who made X:WP what it is, and it's the fans who will put this together. Thanks for your time, and I look forward to getting your submissions. Please let me know if you have any questions. I can't wait to work with many of you again.
