KASHU FOUNDATION:
Promoting Library Collections for Social
Benefit
The Kashu Foundation
dedicated to the advancement of learning, the promotion of cultural heritage
and social betterment. Each year the Foundation supports thousands of dollars
of grants to community agencies, schools, and libraries promoting a better
tomorrow.
The Foundation was
established in 1954 by Charles and Ida Memel, of Sacramento in recognition of the need for more materials to teach
about Americašs rich culture heritage. In the years since, the foundation has
given to several projects, including:
1976
$500,986
To support a Cancer
Research Centre at Hebrew University, Jerusalem
1983
$128,000
To improve
playgrounds for Oxford, MS elementary schools
1987
$526,987
To renovate the
Jesse H. Shera Memorial Library in Lincoln, Nebraska.
In the year 2000,
the Board of the KASHU FOUNDATION decided to focus its support towards building
better library collections for school, public, college, and university
libraries. Private institutions or special libraries should demonstrate how
their proposed collection would benefit society at large.
Libraries interested
in applying for grant support should submit a 2 to 4
page proposal, including a rough description of the library, the parameters of
your collection, and a proposed budget.
This
yearšs foundation grant proposals are due on 4 March 2004. All applicants who pass the
initial first review are encouraged to present 4-minute oral presentations on 18
March.
Recipients
are requested to
submit a final report on the collection grant to the Foundation by 22 April
2004.
