1)            Introductions

•             Welcome Joe Murphy and Vanessa Vallejos to the Committee
•             Thank Janel Quirante for continuing as secretary
•             Committee recognizes contributions of Lillian Nicolich and Rieko Goo from previous semester.

2)            Review and Approve Minutes of 21 April 2006

            Minutes are approved.

3)            We briefly Reviewed Committee Charge                    

4)            Progress Update

a)            Carol Kellett's LIS 694

Distributed curriculum proposal change to new status as a course, not a Special Topics course. Committee members will review Kellett's course materials for decision next meeting before presentation to the ICS Curriculum Committee. Kellett's materials will be reviewed concurrently by the LIS faculty for input to CC.

b)             Re-review Report on Orals Questions

•             Comment on digital library question in particular raises concern that students are answering digital library question have never taken LIS 671.
•             Comment that questions should not be discarded based solely on unpopular questions.
•             Committee will review survey data to discuss at next meeting
•             Survey data to be reviewed by LIS faculty
•             LIS faculty will be asked to map the questions to relevant courses

c)            Re-examine Portfolio Option

•             As an alternative to Orals and Thesis
•             Other LIS programs have a Portfolio presentation as a capstone: more personalized for students to make connections between work produce and LIS objectives, may include discussion of philosophy
•             Need to make sure that all options are equally challenging
•             Committee will do additional research to see how other programs do it and report back in the meeting after the next.

d)            Course Numbering Requests

•             LIS 611 International Librarianship is new number for this course.
•             LIS 619 /620 course number switch was approved.

e)            Student Course Evaluation Form (PJ & AW)

PJ and AW will meet outside CC meeting to continue discussion on this, although  there is concern about implications of changing the form before Professors Quiroga and Wertheimer are tenured.

f)            Dr. Jacso agreed to negotiate with Outreach College to offer a May professional development workshop on databases.

            None
