Present: Ellen Chapman, Barbara Dunn, Laura Gerwitz, Judy Kearney, Pat Ogburn, Leilani Pyle, Kanani Reppun, Helen Wong Smith, Andrew Wertheimer, and guests Matt Yim, Analu Josephides, and Rachel Gushiken
Kanani called the meeting to order at 5:35pm.
We welcomed guests who are UHM library school students observing a meeting of a professional group as part of an assignment for the library
management class of Prof. Andrew Wertheimer. All the Board members introduced themselves to the guests.
Board minutes from the October meeting were accepted as corrected.
Laura gave the Treasurer's report - the balance in our account is $5661.42.
DUES: Annual dues for 2007 should be paid at the annual meeting.
ANNUAL MEETING 2007:
Lodging and Food: Helen booked Pu'uohoku Ranch on Molokai for two nights - Friday, March 30 through Sunday, April 1. Helen will arrange for two catered dinners. Others will arrange food attendees will prepare for breakfasts and lunches. Transportation: Andrew will inquire about chartering a flight. Helen will book vans to and from the airport. Activities: Helen will inquire about a hike to Halawa valley including the
falls. Program: Laura and Andrew will co-chair the program subcommittee. We discussed a variety of possible speakers and topics. Barbara and
Leilani will inquire about the availability of the two National Park archaeologists on the island. A sheet was passed around so that Board
members could write names of possible speakers for us to consider. We decided to offer $100 honoraria to the speakers and we discussed the
possibility of paying for speakers' meals and/or a subsidy for airfare and/or lodging. [Check me on this - my notes are vague!}
Costs: We estimate the cost to be around $350 per person for the two days/nights, food, and transportation.
RESOLUTION RE HAWAII MEDICAL LIBRARY: Judy reported that there have been 23 responses to our resolution. Queen's Medical Center said its official position is that no decision has been made about razing HML. However, Judy found in the Downtown Neighborhood Board minutes of the June 2006 meeting a statement that the razing of HML for a parking structure was a fact. Judy will send a few more copies of the resolution and cover letter to the Downtown Neighborhood Board and a few other librarians and archivists.
FUNDRAISING: Helen talked about a company in Hilo that will put promotional information on t-shirts, mugs, visors, key chains, and just about anything else. She will look at the costs and other details for buttons and will send URLs so we can see the kinds of things that are available.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Andrew distributed the syllabus for his Introduction to Archives Management class being offered in the Spring 2007 semester. He asked us to look it over and volunteer to be a guest speaker for an appropriate class meeting. The class meets on the UHM campus on Thursdays from 1:00-3:40pm.
HOLIDAY SOCIAL: The social will be on Dec. 5 at the Mission Houses lawn, starting at 6:00pm. Please sign up and pay by November 30. AHA will pay $75 for the use of the site. Please donate something for a door prize.
MEMBER LEAVING: Judy reported that Lela Goodell will be moving to the Big Island and will leave AHA.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:05pm
Respectfully submitted, (and revised)
Ellen Chapman, Secretary
