Course Content and Limitations:
Film is one of the most developed areas of the Philippine culture. It showcases the best stories and images of history, tradition, lifestyles and practices of the Filipinos. Some of the finest films ever made by Filipino filmmakers and film scriptwriters were adapted from real life experiences, a reconstruction of the brilliant historical moments of the country, if not the best social commentaries on political, social and religious events. In part, this course will tackle how these topics were developed in various films that will be discussed in class. It will also tackle the history and development of the Filipino film industry.
Since life is the main topic of films, and films showcase the various socio-political, moral and cultural representations of people in the country, it should follow that issues tackled by films directly and indirectly be discussed.
