The Virtual Baha'i Village has temporarily been closed due to problems associated with old links. A new village will eventually replace this with more reliable and up to date links.

Background: I share the background associated with this in case there are other site hosts who may face similar problems. One of the challenges associated with developing a web site is the difficulty in maintaining links. As this site was created originally in 1996, many of its links have become out of date. In itself, this is a minor annoyance. What complicates the matter further, however, is that in many cases, dead links don't simply fail to make a connection. In some cases, the dead links lead browsers to other web sites - including porn sites. I'm not 100% certain as to why this occurs - but I thinks its because the site server is taken over by another company which then defines the path to a porn site hosted somewhere on its server as the default path for any unknown links (most sites instead usually have a message that explains that there is no such site). This results in the highly embarrasing problem whereby links to what was once legitimate and relevant sites leading people to completely unrelated (and often untasteful) sites. To the best of my knowledge, this has only occurred within one link out of the many hundred that made up the village. . . but my inability to police the site better and my incapacity to more regularly update links is causing me to redesign the site from its core.

I apologize to anyone who may have inadvertently come across such sites and hope that my disabling of the site, even if temporary, may help prevent such occurances in the future.
