UHWO Library Preparing for Move to Kapolei Campus


Greetings UHWO ‘Ohana,

The UHWO Library will soon be locating to a brand new, 60,000 square foot library building on the new Kapolei campus. The UHWO Library will be closed beginning Monday, July 16 through August 12, 2012. The library will reopen on Monday, August 13, 2012. The library will be offering limited services beginning Monday, July 9, 2012.

Please review the following information regarding accessing library items, as well as what library services will be offered during our transition to the new Kapolei campus:

  • UHWO Library New Address

    Telephone numbers have yet to be determined. The best way to reach a library staff member on or after July 9, 2012, will be by email: uhwolib@hawaii.edu We will respond to your question(s) within 24 hours. Feel free to call us at 455-0498 up until July 9, 2012.

  • Borrowing UHWO Library Items

  • Last day to check out library items will be Friday, June 29, 2012. This includes DVDs, VHS tapes and books. Books checked out between June 20 and June 29, 2012, will have a due date of Friday, August 24, 2012.

  • Items Currently Checked Out

  • For UHWO items currently checked out by UHWO faculty and students, we will extend your due date until Friday, August 24, 2012. We ask that you hold on to these items until then given our preparations for the opening of the new library.

  • UHWO Print Journal Titles

  • We are almost done packing our print journals. These items will not be available for browsing until Monday, August 13, 2012.

  • UHWO Electronic Databases

  • Off-campus access to the Library Catalog (Voyager) and to our electronic databases should not be affected during the transition. If you encounter any access issues to the resources available on our web site, please contact us at uhwolib@hawaii.edu. We will respond to your question(s) within 24 hours.

  • Research and Reference Services

  • We will continue to provide research and reference services as best we can whether in-person, online or via telephone! Beginning Monday, July 9, 2012 however, we may not be as quick to respond to research questions, due to our move to the new campus. The best way to reach us between July 9 and mid-August will be via email at uhwolib@hawaii.edu Again, we will respond to your question(s) within 24 hours.

  • Requesting Items from other UH Libraries.

  • UHWO faculty and students can continue to request items online and have them delivered to the UH West Oahu Library. However, please anticipate delays, due to the transition to the new library. Non-UHWO faculty and students are unable to request items from the UHWO collection, as most of our items are in off-site storage. Non-UHWO faculty and students will be able to request items from the UHWO collection beginning Monday, August 20, 2012.

Library staff will begin moving to the new campus on Monday, July 9, traveling back-and-forth between the Pearl City campus and our new Kapolei campus. The best way to reach us is via email at uhwolib@hawaii.edu
