SMART Board Tutorials
SMART Boards are mounted at the front of classrooms E101 and E103. They are connected via USB cable to the computers in both classrooms and utilize an LCD projector that is mounted on the ceiling and projects the computer screen onto the SMART Board.
There are two ways to use the SMART Board. The first way is to use it only as a screen for the projector. In this case you would simply turn on the computer and the LCD projector (via the projector remote control) and you will be ready to begin. The second way is to use the SMART Board interactively (the main reason for having a SMART Board). In this case, you would begin the same way as mentioned above, but you would then use the SMART Board as a touch screen as opposed to just a display. There is no "On/Off" switch on the SMART Board--as long as the indicator light on the bottom right-hand corner of the board is green and not red, then it can be used interactively. Color of the light does not matter unless you are using the board interactively. If the light is green then you can then use your finger as a mouse. In other words, you can select objects on the screen by tapping them once or you can double-tap a shortcut to open programs. Double-taps will also advance PowerPoint slides. You also have the option of using the SMART Board pens (IMPORTANT: DO NOT USE ANY OTHER TYPE OF PENS ON THE SMART BOARD--THIS INCLUDES DRY/ERASE MARKERS AND ESPECIALLY PERMANENT MARKERS) to draw on the screen. Also available is the SMART Board Notebook Software that allows you to save your notes in different formats that you can email to yourself or save on a flash/thumb drive. (IMPORTANT: PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU TURN OFF THE PROJECTOR WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED USING IT. IT WILL REQUIRE YOU TO HIT THE POWER BUTTON TWICE).
