Animal Carcass and Tissue Disposal Services

(Vertebrates and invertebrates, excluding human tissues and parts)

Please carefully follow the instructions for disposal of animal carcasses and tissues. Your cooperation is essential in order to comply with federal, state and local regulations for disposal of animal tissues. Future problems involving noncompliance for disposal of animal carcasses or tissues may force LAS to discontinue this service to the University. These services only apply to carcasses and tissues that are generated by the University of Hawaii. If you desire to dispose of your deceased personal pets please contact the Humane Society or your local veterinarian.

Freezers are located in:

Access limited to animal facility users

Only animal carcasses and tissues (vertebrates and invertebrates, excluding Human tissues and parts) generated by the facilities will be accepted for disposal.

Carcasses and tissues should be bagged in leak-proof plastic bags or wrapping and then properly labeled.

Identify bags with:

  1. Name of principal investigator
  2. Department
  3. Building and room number of PI
  4. Telephone number
  5. Type of animal waste and amount of each type

Fill out log sheet on top of freezer with:

  1. Date
  2. Name of principal investigator
  3. Department
  4. Type of animal waste and amount of each type

Maintain size of each bag to less than ten pounds.

Radioactive animal carcasses, please notify Radiation Safety Program, Environmental Health and Safety Office, at 956-8591.
