** Sports Shorts **

The *Honolulu Advertiser* announced its High School Girls All-State team
today with Punahou's Onaona Miller garnering player of the year honors.
Joining the Yale-bound senior forward on the first team are Kalaheo's Kim
Taylor (5-9, Sr.) and Brandy Richardson (5-9, Fr.), Waiakea's Sheila
Azevedo (5-10, Jr.), and Maryknoll's Michelle Gabriel (5-5, Soph.).
Punahou's Shelly Kahuanui Fey is the coach of the year.  On the
second team are Aina Kohler (Lahainaluna), Amber Ahia (McKinley), Milia
Macfarlane (Punahou), Nikki Drevno (UHS), and Candice Usita (Punahou).

UH Wahine Kehau Cofran has signed a deal to play softball in Japan.  A
graduate of Kailua High, Cofran was an All-WAC first team pick at
shortstop this past season.  She will play for a Japanese entertainment
company called "Over the Record" and receive housing, meals,
transportation and a monthly salary.

UH outfielder Darren Blakely was the fifth-round pick of the Anaheim
Angels in the Major League amateur draft yesterday.  He was the 151st
player taken overall.  Other players with local ties chosen yesterday were
UH Hilo pitcher Tyler Yates (23rd round, Oakland) and UH recruits C.C.
Sabathia (1st round, Cleveland) and Andy Pratt (9th round, Texas)
