The *Honolulu Advertiser* named its 1998 Hawaii High School All-State
baseball team today with Iolani third baseman Kainoa Obrey named player of
the year. Iolani's Dean Yonamine and Mid-Pacific's Dunn Muramaru were
named co-coaches of the year.

A 100% chance of recovery has been predicted for former UH point guard
Anthony Carter, who'll have his shoulder operated on tomorrow at the
Alabama-Birmingham Medical Center. Carter, a potential NBA first-round
pick, was originally slated to have his operation in Honolulu but was
convinced to have it on the mainland by an NBA doctor. Dr. James Andrews,
who's operated on Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, and Bo Jackson, among
others, will perform Carter's operation.

The Moanalua Golf Club will be celebrating its 100th anniversary this
year. The club, founded by Honolulu banker Samuel Mills Damon in 1898, is
the oldest golf course in the U.S. west of the Rocky Mountains.

Today, Anna Umemura will take on Christel Tomori for the Hawaii State
Women's Golf Association Match Play Championship after winning semifinal
matches yesterday at the Oahu Country Club. Umemura, 19, beat Kari
Williams, 4 and 3, while Tomori, 23, bested Kathy Cho, 5 and 4.
