OHE May 27, 1997 (Part 3)

OHE member Jarrod Kinoshita (jarrodk@hawaii.edu) submits the following report. Mahalo nui, Jarrod!
Hi Dayle,

Marissa and I did the Puu Maelieli hike this past saturday with the HTMC. We started the hike at 9:50am from the side of Kahekili Hwy. I also brought my video camera since this was a short hike.

The first half of the hike was on an old jeep road, it was a little steep but easy. After that point, the trail got really overgrown. For a good chunk of the hike, we were following the pink ribbons and "flattened" grass of other hikers. After that, we had another stiff climb to the summit. It wasn't a difficult hike, but a good workout.

We made it to the bunker facing Kaneohe bay in about 50 min. and enjoyed the view for about an hour before heading back. I've never seen Kaneohe Bay like I did on this day. I was amazed at all the sand barges close to shore. I believe I saw the route Dayle took a few days before comming up from Kam Hwy side. I didn't seem all that bad, but seemed to be a bit steeper.

That's it,
Jarrod

Look forward to hearing what everyone else did this weekend.

Fire away those reports, gang.
