Last week I got sick. I tried to do an easy hike, Koko Crater the wimp way, and almost passed out in the midday heat. I had to lie down couple times, and only got to the intersection with the Blowhole-Arch trail. But I discovered the other ribboned ridge going straight down to Blowhole!
Anyway, I was supposed to do something last weekend, and couldn't do it, and so I had to squeeze everything this weekend. As a result, I could not even go on a regular Sunday hike, and had to do a very short one.
I chose to go up Mariners Ridge. It is a very nice trail, and there are lots of hikers on it, ignoring the ominous and venomous sign warning against trespassers at the beginning.
I have done this umpteen times, and there is nothing unusual today, except I noticed that there is a way to go down the ridge windwards. Previously, on Tom-Tom and Kaupo hikes, I noticed that there is a relatively gentle ridge going down from Mariners that seems possibly doable. Today, I verified that from the top: it seems that it is at least doable to half-way down, beyond which, I can't tell.
I even tied a ribbon at the point I stopped, as evidence :)
