Went up Kuliouou east ridge, crossed over, and came down the Kuliouou middle ridge.
Weather is a bit warmer than yesterday, but still cool and breezy up top.
I pondered Bear Claws ridge, and it looks doable from the view from the top. I went down partways, until I chicken out, and marked the spot with a ribbon :). We should do this one of these days.
I am always worried about ropes on this hike, since it was vandalized once more than a year ago. I fixed my rope there. Today I found that both of my ropes are still there, at the cross-over, but someone strung them together and now the rope extends almost the entire cliff-face.
On the middle ridge side, the top cable is intact, but the lower cable was vandalized, and only about 1/3 is left. Today is dry and I came down without aid, but on a wet day the cable is necessary. I actually brought my own rope in case one or more cables are vandalized, but I don't want to use up my one rope. So when Club hike comes, someone would have to fix that cable.
Those who vandalize ropes/cables/pitons, like Kuliouou, Olomana, Ohulehule, etc. should be charged with attempted murder and should get the death penalty, which shall consist of jumping off from Ohulehule or Olomana, they have a choice.
