I have been carrying on this project to explore this side ridge from Waahila down to Palolo for years, in fact just about a decade! Since I have nothing better to do today, I resumed this long-term project.
The ridge goes off a bit before the the other turnoff into Manoa valley. It first goes into a depression before gaining the ridge. I have placed multiple ribbons along the route.
I wish I could say I got to the bottom. In fact I considered doing that, but did not like the prospect of hailing a taxi at the bottom. The trail was severely overgrown near the top, and that's why it took 10 years to open it up. But today I cleared everything bad near the top, and reached the part that looks like a regular trail, that goes on and on, and presumably will get to the bottom. There are signs in the mud that people have used this trail in the middle section, presumably meaning that the trail goes all the way.
One of these days I need to find a companion and place a car at the bottom and finish this little project off. I got interested when back in 1985 or so I read that State wanted to construct trail from Palolo to Waahila, and so there will be one single trail going across, to Manoa, up, then to Nuuanu valley. Nothing has been done by the State in the past 14 years, although they did finish the connector from Konohuanui ridge to Nuuanu back in 1990.
