At 4:10 pm I started through botanical garden but was called back by security who told me the garden closes at 4 pm. I did not know that. So I drove to blow hole and parked. About 3/4 of the way up I decided that I shouldn't be in such a hurry. For some r eason I felt like I had to race against the clock.
Reached the crater rim in 20 minutes (I couldn't resist looking at my watch), and the metal platform in about 30. The surfing trophy and ammo box with summit log were there as advertised. I didn't spend much time reading since I wanted to complete the rim loop and get back to my car before dark. The last entry was by Dale Turner on 11-27. Someone had a time to the top of under 12 minutes, must've been Superman.
Continued around the rim, at time it felt like I would be blown off. The wind was going against me downhill and with me uphill. I guess clockwise was the right direction today. Took a left at a junction. This ended up in a garden area and had orange flags contouring through the garden. I felt like I was breaking a lot of rules. The garden was closed and I was walking off the path longer than necessary. I reasoned that the orange ribbons must mark the "official path". After a short walk on the dirt road th e trail to the rim started at a sign saying "NO ACCESS, DANGER ETC..". Now I was feeling really guilty.
The loop back to the junction leading to the blow hole took much longer than I expected, 50 minutes, it was now almost 6 pm. I reached my car at 6:15 and drove to Costco for a Chicken Caesar Salad, then went back to work. Friends at work asked why my hair was sticking up. I just said it was very windy outside.
