Today, (Saturday, 12/20) Paka-lolo and I ventured to the west side of Oahu to complete the hike up and down that "honking pile of rock," a phrase used by members of the HTMC to describe mighty Kamaileunu. The weather gods were on our side, making available views of Kaala, Ohikilolo, Kalena, Hapapa, Kanehoa, Kaua, Heleakala, and even Keahiakahoe. Superb!
This trail is a favorite of Wing "Wingo" Ng and Stuart "Guru" Ball, so Pat and I decided to dedicate the hike to not only them, but also to Mike "Killah" Uslan, who has inspired us to hit the hills with gusto in recent weeks. Mahalo nui loa to those three!!
We left a bottle and notepad at the end point but in my haste to pack my gear in the morning I forgot to bring along a writing implement. So someone on OHE-L is going to have to go up there with a pen/pencil to make a notation (and leave the writing implement for future visitors). The HTMC will be doing Kamaileunu on 2/8 so maybe we can get Wing, Dave Webb, or some other kind soul to go up there to tend to the task.
Paka-lolo promised to post a full description of the outing on Monday or Tuesday.
Anyone else hit the trails in the past couple of days?
