Myles and I played hooky yesterday and went to the falls. We wanted something short and beautiful and this trail has so much variety to offer.

10 am. The mountain apples have nicely rotted away and the day was just perfect. The trail is drier than expected. The ground isn't soaked as usual so the walk along the contour is exhilarating. The hike up the first fall came with a small surprise. Myles tests the rope with his weight and the thing breaks. Lucky for him I was underneath, broke the fall. As dangerous as that was it was also rather funny. No bruises or broken bones. REQUEST: next person going there please take some rope and replace the gnarly one. If I can get to it this coming week I will.

Kept climbing up the second fall and toward the memorial rock above that. The trail was in great shape although it lacks flags throughout (as if you really need them on this one). We moved toward the crater and turned left. We didn't have time to make the ascent on the right side. We had a big time restriction so didn't go into the crater. A pleasant lunch of safeway sandwiches and back around the loop. We were down and across the streams by 2 pm.

It was well worth the time off. See you out there.

Serge
