[pages 455-457 in the Bedford Guide].
The writing task: Discuss similarities and/or differences between
the wife of the 1990s with the kind of wife Judy Brady says she wants
Format considerations: Organize using point-by-point or
one-side-at-a-time methods:
Point-by-point organization

Paragraph 2: Discuss point 1 for both sides
Paragraph 3: Discuss point 2 for both sides
Paragraph 4: Discuss point 3 for both sides
Paragraphs 5-? Discuss points for both sides

One-side-at-a-time organization
Paragraph 1: Intro w/thesis
Paragraph 2: Discuss all points for side A
Paragraph 3: Discuss all points for side B
Paragraph 4: Conclude: restate thesis, state your view.
What else should you know? The test will be closed book. That is,
no notes or use of the text will be allowed. Like the previous in-class
essays, those who want to write the essay using pen and paper may do so
and those wishing to use the computers may do that.
What can I do to prepare for this? Read the Brady's piece several
times and note down three or four characteristics of the wife she says she
would want. The characteristics you note down will become your points of
comaparison. Using a comparison frame I will discuss in class, jot down
supporting material. Thereafter, you can use the essay planning forms
to help you compose your thesis and topic sentences and to help you
organize your ideas. As I have suggested for the previous in-class
essays, you should write out the entire essay several times prior to the
exam day.
