SOS networks interoperability and more in Cyber
trust
This time I spent my time reading and considering more
about the use of cell phones in the classroom. There is much lack of interoperability in SOS
networks. Cisco is addressing it.
Reading:
-
Attack in US would tax emergency tracking mobile phone users It basically says that E911
can't handle overloads.
-
Cisco builds system to boost emergency communications They are into it :-) They have
developed a system called IPICS IP-interoperability and collaboration system that will
allow personnel from different service agencies to communicate with each other so that problems
that happened on Sept 11 will not happen again.
-
Designing a human-centered multimodel GIS interface too support emergency
management
This arricle is much about HCI. It is interesting but says that GIS systems are not yet avaiable.
Perhaps it will be more of this available soon. I must keep my eyes opened.

SOS:Emergency agencies often unable to talk to each others This explains the lack of
intercommunication among agencies. A solution is addressed in the CISCO article.

My thoughts
I liked reading about interoperability because I know that there is much to be done there.
There is still much work to be done in emergency networks. It is very enticing to me but I'm still
thinking about the use of cell phones in the classroom at least to test what is going to be
implemented.
What I want to look into for next week:
-
find more about the cisco project.
-
go to FEMA.gov and see what is the status of their emergency preparedness.
Time spent:
- writing : 2 hours
- reading : 4.5 hours
