Why use cell phones for this network? - Cell phones
in the classroom??? .
Reading:
-
Cell phones: nuisance or necessity Complains about how cell phones distract students
-
Combining the previous article with the one from last week that says how great cell phone
technology is makes me think: Why don't we use this technology to make things better for
students? They can use their cell phones as school tools at the same time that they can carry
their device around and show it off?
Maybe we can take advantage of the technology that is already there.

Cell Phone ethnography A paper by some undergrad students about the use of cell phones. It
contains a sample survey that they used to gather some information.

Article about the use of clickers at Harvard. I need to find the original to cite the real
name and sources.
My thoughts
Why use cell phones instead of other devices for this project?
Well, cell phone companies are already worried about being the best and to have the more secure
and reliable networks and that is already a plus. Besides more and more people purchase cell
phones each day.
Here is some information from Mobiledia that talks about the market distribution of the
different brands of cell phones in the classroom:
As of August 25, 2005 Motorola and Nokia account for nearly 50% of the wordwide sales, so I need
to begin with them since they are very strong in Europe and Latin America too.
What I want to look into for next week:
-
Fix and change the survey from the cell phone ethnography article to gather my own cell phone
information.
-
Consider this as work that will test the software that I will develop for the dissertation
project.
Time spent:
- writing : 3 hours (includes the survey)
- reading : 2 hours
- others : thinking and thinking (lost count)
