Theoretical and practical planning and implementation of data collection and analysis of the marine environment. Among the techniques covered are: measuring marine circulation; oxygen, temperature, salinity measurement and profiling; marine sediment collection and analysis; collection, identification, and enumeration of marine plankton; benthic sampling techniques including mark-recapture, transect-quadrat, photoquadrat and video methods; calculation and statistical analysis of ecological indices; remote sensing; water quality and environmental impact.
Prerequisite: Mare 250, Statistical Applications in Marine Science.
This course will be offered every semester beginning Spring 1997.
