Who We Are...
In 1992, an Ilokano student and an Ilokano faculty, Bert Soria, and Precy Espiritu, with a handful of Ilokano students founded the UH Timpuyog Ilokano student organization. It was created to support the Ilokano Language and Literature Program. It aims to instill pride in our Filipino heritage, develop leadership skills, and help students develop proficiency in Ilokano and awareness of Filipino traditions and values.
Timpuyog actively contributes its services to the community through various environmental and other projects, and its participation in cultural and social activities in the Hawaii-Filipino community. It helps organize the end-of-semester Ilokano Drama an Song Festival, in which students present miniplays at the UH Art Auditorium. This event culminates in a Filipino feast provided by the organization. It also co-sponsors the Timpuyog Banquet which is held toward the students’ contributions to the organization and the Program as well as honor students’ academic excellence and community involvement.
