The main reasons I listen to this album so much: Koshi's wonderful passionate vocals and the happy feel to the album. It cheers me up whenever I feel down. Also, it's the sound I love best from B'z -- their wonderful mix of pop, rock, and dance.
I think this entire album is one of Koshi's best vocal performances ever. The combination of youth, passion, emotion, is just irresistable to me.
I had to get used to this album slowly. If you can believe this, when I first heard Wonderful Opportunity I got a bit put off. It was a bit too "pop" for me. In fact, the entire sound on this album is very different from their current style as it's all very pop. But now I LOVE this album! The songs are so upbeat, they never fail to put me in a good mood. And I always love listening to Koshi's old husky voice since it has so much emotion (not that his current voice doesn't have emotion, but the old voice also has the advantage of youthful passion).
This was B'z fifth album. After having listened to three of the previous four albums, I can say that this album was a completely new direction for B'z. Up to this album, they pretty much did dance music, but this album is a complete switch towards pop rock.
My favorite songs on this album are Wonderful Opportunity, Tonight (is the night), Kairaku no heya, Wild Life, and Aikawarazu na bokura. But really, I love the entire album. No wonder it sold 2.4 million copies (their second-best non-"Best" album sales).
1. Wonderful Opportunity
I love this song, it's so inspirational. It's really upbeat and positive. If you've had a bad day, this song will guarantee put a smile on your face. I love the lines, "ikiteru kara shoganai" which could be translated as "oh well, that's life". And of course, "shinpai nai, mondai nai, nai nai that's life, it's alright", which can be translated as "No worries, no problems, that's life, it's alright". Or "trouble wa subarashii chance", which means, trouble is a awesome chance. This song always fires me up and makes me able to go on, especially after a rough day at work.
2. Tonight (is the night)
I think this song is SO SO romantic. Especially the line, "hitomi ubai, slowly futari", which mean, "two people gazing into each other's eyes, slowly coming together". Just kill me already! The style and sound of this song is very different from B'z usual style. It's almost R&B-ish. It's dance, but it's not 80s dance. I don't really know how to describe it except that I REALLY like it. I also like the lines where he sings, "yami no hate made fly, aisuru yure ni high, fuchou ni nareba cry, toki ga sugite mo shy".
3. Kairaku no heya
Now this is just a totally good fun song. I love it when Koshi sings "hey listen to me people, this is the LIVE-GYM!" and then does one of his trademarks HUAHs. This is just a great pop-rock song. I like everything about it. I love it when he sings "anata no dance" and you can hear the background singer screaming DANCE! Or how about when he sings about all of life's guilty pleasures -- chocolate cake, rock and roll, and DEEP KISS. I think that's soooo cool.
4. Urei no Gypsy
This is a very nice song and I like the passion and emotion that Koshi conveys when he sings it. I certainly don't dislike this song. However, this is not my favorite style of song. It just kind of meanders around, and there's no real pattern to the song that you can grab hold of. Good things about this song are the absolutely wonderful singing by Koshi (his old passionate, husky voice at its best!!) and it contains one of my favorite B'z sounds. Which is, acoustic guitar underneath the entire song, accompanied by nice electric guitar.
5. Crazy Rendezvous
This is another good fun B'z song that I really like. The music just gives you the imagery of riding along in the car with the wind blowing your hair. I also love near the middle of the song, right before Tak's (awesome) solo, where Koshi sings about a "big song" and in the background vocals you can hear him *screaming* the line! COOL!! I just like this type of B'z song. It's like a fast ride down an open freeway, Tak's wonderful melody, Koshi's voice, we're riding along on top of the song!
6. Mou ichido kiss shita katta
I really like this song. It's about two people who broke up because they wanted to follow different dreams, and he's looking back and saying "mou ichido kiss shita katta" - I wanted to kiss you one more time. COOL. The melody of this song is quite different from B'z other songs, and very good. It's hard for me to believe that this was an *album* song, not a single or a b-side. It's a really good song and it's hard to believe that a song of this quality is an album song!!
7. Wild Life
I like this song a lot. It's another one of the typical fast pop/rock songs that I really like. I love the line, "in the wild life, kimagure onna". Or when Koshi sings about "riding on a horse". I'm listening to this song right now, as I type, and I have to say I really like it. But I can't explain why! It's just one of those good fun B'z songs that I really like. As I keep saying, this is my favorite sound of B'z, the mix of pop, rock, and dance.
8. Soredemo kimi ni wa moudorenai
I like the melody of this song very much. I also like the line, "inakunatta kimi ga, slow motion de warai kake". Or the part where Koshi sings, "soredemo kimi ni wa modorenai" twice. Or the part where he sings "I miss you very much" -- it makes you want to run to him and say, you've got me! Another one of my favorite parts is the very beginning when Tak does that guitar riff. He's the master at knowing just when to put those riffs in. This is yet another good B'z song that I just love. Add to that the slight sadness in Koshi's voice, and here's another song that I really like. Oh and of course I really like the ending, where the song abruptly takes a slightly slower turn for a few seconds.
9. Aikawarazu na bokura
This is a very different kind of song, mostly acapella, sung with the other members of B'z backup band. The sneeze and the "Ikou ikou yo" are done by Tak. I love this song, it's nice and relaxed, with pretty much just Kosh and the guitar. It's all very cool. Of course the title line "aikawarazu na bokura" (the two of us, as usual), and the way it's sung, is also very cool.
10. Alone
OK. This song sounds very nice. I like the translation. But I don't know, I just don't care for it all that much. Maybe I've heard it too many times? Nah, there are many other B'z songs that I've heard just as many times but I still like them. Oh well, I don't hate it, so I still listen to it everytime I listen to this album. If for no other reason than to spend more time with Koshi's wonderful old passionate voice. I will admit this song makes a very nice close to this absolutely wonderful album. And not liking one song out of >240 is not bad, huh? :-)
