About Me

“We shouldn’t teach great books; we should teach a love of reading.” -B.F. Skinner

From the moment I picked up Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach at seven years old, I was hooked on reading. This love for reading led me to graduate from the University of Hawaiʻi-Mānoa (UHM) with a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education-English Language Arts in May 2007. I worked as a high school English teacher for four years before entering the Library and Information Science program at UHM to pursue my Master’s degree as a School Library-Media Specialist in August 2014. My studies in the LIS program have made me especially interested in early childhood literacy, and I am now inspired to promote literacy in Hawaiʻi by working with parents to read more to their young children.
