Koala Bears

These teddy bear look alikes, are often called Koala Bears or native bears. Many believe that they are related to the bear family, however, they are not. They are Marsupials.

They are from Australia and live amongst the eucalyptus trees, which they feed on. Koalas have soft, thick, "gray-brown" fur, and a hairless nose. In addition, they have sharp, curved claws, long toes, and a strong grip.

Unlike many other animals, they rarely drink water. The word Koala, comes from an Australian Aborigine word meaning no drink. Koala bears measure from 25 to 30 inches in length, and they weigh 15-30 pounds. They are nocturnal, they sleep during the day and are awake at night.
