Introduction

Hello, I'm Zack. I've attended the UH Lab School since kindergarten. I think this school is pretty cool. It's small, so you get to know everyone pretty well.

I'm currently in the computer technology class, doing various projects. We are doing the PRN-3 project right now, which is this. The Personal Class Resume. It is basically about me and the projects we do in this class.

Lab monitor.

Being in the Computer/Technology class requires you to be a Lab monitor about once a month. All we do is come in about _ hour before school, and watch over the computer lab. This project (actually an activity) is a good way to learn basic skills like responsibility and other things. It's also kind of fun helping people.

We Are The World

This project is like an introduction to the class. It shows how to use Nicenet and the many other things on the Internet. This project also introduces us to our fellow classmates in the computer technology class, so it's a good way to get to know people.

What's Peace Corps

This project was about the Peace Corps. It is a non-profit organization that helps people. One of the people in Peace Corps came to our school and talked to our class for the day. She told us what it was like to actually be in it and what they had to do. The Peace Corps is a very good organization because it helps the people in need for free.

Class Schedule

The third task was to make a Class Schedule using the Microsoft Word program. We made a multi-column table, where we then entered our daily school schedule. (Time, room, teacher, description of class, etc.)

What's Bioremediation

Bioremediation was a neat project. We learnt (via Nicenet) about the Bioremediation. There were some small problems with Nicenet, but they were fixed. So we posted messages under that topic, and they replied to our questions and comments.

Itami Project

For this project, we communication with some of the people from Japan and asked them some questions. They talked to us about the quake in Japan that killed many people. We talked to the survivors, and they told us what it was like. They also talked a little bit about Japan.

Star Festival

This project was kind of neat. We used an interactive CD made by Dr. Shigeru Miyagawa. We could "travel through time" on the CD and explore various things that he did on his trip. My group (me and Colin) explored the Fruit Shop. I never knew there was so much culture and stuff involved in just a fruit shop, so this topic was very informative.

What's Cambodia?

In this task we have had a conference with Dalida Lim. We learned about many things, like their language, their cultures, their religions, and their problems they encounter. We learned their biggest problem was their lack of medicine and medical supplies. We posted comments and questions that they answered.

What's Egypt?

For this one, we explored Egypt via Nicenet. Jennifer Ohara posted this topic, and we would read her messages and other messages posted by other people. We learned about their lifestyles, their economy, and many other things. This was a good project for us to see how other people lived in other parts of the world.

What's Slovakia

This topic taught us many things about Slovakia, like the geography, economy, politics, and even some hobbies of the host, Paul Kim. We held a teleconference using the lumaphone with Mr. Kim, and we got to ask him questions about Slovakia.

What's Ecotourism

The Sea Canoe was a very interesting topic. We learnt of a "All natural" way for the people in Southern Thailand to make money while attracting tourists. The Sea Canoe is a big floating banana (boat) that you can paddle around. This is a good method to go sight seeing, because it's safe, clean, and fun.

What's Korea

In this topic, we talked with Teahoon Kim via Nicenet. We learn many things about Korea and Mr. Kim. I also learnt where it was located and the approximate location.

Tapped in is similar to E-School. You log in, and explore a virtual campus with over 7,500 people currently using it. You can explore the campus on your computer, and communicate real-time with other students, teachers, and staff. You can also pet a dog. J

What's Peace Gaming

Peace Gaming is basically a game. It is a War game that determines the result of a certain scenario to prevent problems from happening in the first place. This new technology will solve many problems before they start, and help keep the peace.

What's E-School

E-School is basically a on line school which you attended through your computer. There is a wide range of classes you can take, and you get REAL grades that count toward your GPA. The E-School will be offered to UH Lab School students next year.

Conclusion

This class is very good. It helps us learn about sooo many other things, that we would never learn about if it wasn't for this class. This class is like a doorway to other places. We can interact with places all over the world.
