Student Responsibilities
It is the student's responsibility to set up the internship.
This is done by contacting the sponsor and asking for an interview for
the internship position listed. If both you and the sponsor reach an
agreement including hours to be worked and responsibilities, you will
then fill out the Internship Agreement
(The Contract Between Student and Sponsor) with appropriate signatures
and return them to the Internship Instructor.
Students are also highly encouraged to arrange their own internships.
In fact, many of the listed positions which are now a regular part of
the internship program were begun on student initiative and contact
with the prospective organizations. Please see the Internship Instructor
if you have an internship in mind, which is not with one of the established
sponsors on the list.
Here are your responsibilities for working on your internship:
- Research at least three potential internship sponsors and prepare
a resume and cover letter (The organization list can be found in this
web site).
- Set up an internship by completing interviews and signing the contract
(The Internship Agreement Form).
- Request an appointment with the Internship Instructor to obtain
the signature and registration code for COM 495 Communication Internships.
- Register for COM 495 Communication Internships.
- Complete and return the Memorandum
of Agreement with appropriate signature.
- Act in a professional and appropriate manner in accordance with
the rules and regulations of your organization.
- Fulfill the course requirements for COM 495 by:
- Keep a Log of Internship Contact Hours
- Complete Weekly Journal of Activities
- Develop Electronic Portfolio or write a Final Report
- Attend all face-to-fact meetings
- Remind your sponsor to complete and fax the Evaluation by the
Intern's Supervisor Form.
