Sponsor's Responsibilities
In order to ensure the maximum benefits for both student interns
and your organization, we ask that each professional supervisor accepts
certain responsibilities and is required to:
-
-
-
Introduce the intern to the organization and fellow
employees, inform him/her of any safety and "Right to Know
Issues," and provide training when needed;
-
Provide clear and specific job description, expectations
and time schedules.
-
Assure that the intern has a meaningful learning
experience, performing relevant entry-level work;
-
Create an atmosphere receptive to "supervised
learning," whereby the intern can progress quickly with someone
available to expect and encourage questions.
-
Include the intern in meetings and problem-solving
sessions;
-
Keep the intern busy and directed towards his/her
learning objectives;
-
Maintain an open channel of communication with regular
meetings;
-
Keep in mind that as a site supervisor, you are very important. You
are an essential ingredient in the success of the intern's learning
experience. The intern will look to you as a role model and learn
from your expertise as he/she applies and develops his/her skills
in the future. You personify the organization.
