6th Annual SVFA Awards Ceremony
"Lokahi I Ho'okahi Mana'o: Let's Join Together In One Vision"
On Saturday, May 18, 1996, the 6th Annual SVFA Awards Ceremony broadcasted live across the State of Hawai'i from John F. Kennedy Theatre on the University of Hawai'i at Manoa campus. Students, professionals, and educators alike gathered to celebrate the outstanding achievements of Hawaii's future video and filmmakers.
With Brickwood Galuteria of KCCN FM100 and Lee Cataluna of NBC Hawaii News 8 presiding as Masters of Ceremonies, a total of 15 awards were presented to students by various industry professionals.
In addition to their trophies, student winners also received over $2,500.00 in other prizes including those donated by Sony Hawai'i Company. Short documentary segments, produced by SVFA, were presented to the live and television audience throughout the evening explaining various issues including who the Student Video & Filmmakers' Association is, the purpose and significance of the Awards Ceremony, the future of the Hawai'i film and video industry, and the promise of the future in technology-based education.
The audience was also treated to performances by dancers from the hula halau, the "House of I" under Kumu Hula Leimomi Maldonaldo and accompanied by Anna Pung. Upon the conclusion of the televised ceremony, all were invited to attend a reception so that industry professionals and students might be able to meet and network with each other.
