Desktop Publishing

Development Process:

This assignment was a partnership effort using Microsoft Word to create a Technology Plan for 3rd graders learning about modern Egypt. I worked with Erica Kawamura to develop a plan that allowed technology to enhance the unit and create opportunities for student success. As partners, we decided to focus on modern Egypt and the various cities within Egypt and allow the students to become the experts and guiding a tour to this interesting land. Students learned about Egypt and its people, culture, clothing, and food and enhanced their learning through the use of a PowerPoint presentation. Our Partnership worked well together as we both had some experience in creating a technology plan complete with a technology acquisition, summary of purchases, floorplan, and an evaluation rubric.

Challenges:

The challenges that I faced was creating a technology acquisition that will support the learning. There are much details to include to the acquisition list that will enhance the learning. Erica did an excellent job in purchasing even the littlest item (mounting for the LCD Projector)that made the technology portion of the Technology Plan complete. We were able to divide the work and pull everything together in the end . We did an awesome job and turned in our assignment on time.

Excel Spreadsheet

Development Process:

This was an individual assignment using Excel Spreadsheet as a grade book. The objective for this assignment was to allow the program to organize, tabulate, and graph a teacher's grade book. Included in this assignment is the class average, median, lowest and highest grade, and the grading criteria.

Challenges:

I have never used Excel as a grade book before and this assignment challenged my learning abilities as I had to learn new technology skills to produce a relatively meaningful gradebook. I had some difficulties learning to use the formulas that would calculate the semester grades, averages, and overall grades. Another challenge for me was creating a column graph that would represent the overall grades of the class. Thanks to our online live disscussions with my peers and the instructor, I was able to overcome my challenges once again.

PowerPoint

Development Process:

A lesson plan was designed were literature and technology would be the focuses on having classroom students use technology to acquire skills and knowledge while allowing the content of literature and poetry drive the curriculum. The technology tool that was used for this particular lesson was PowerPoint. Within the lesson, students would read the book titled, Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes, learn how to write a cinquian poem, and use the Hyperstudio software to create a multimedia card.

Challenges:

The only challenges that I was faced with while designing this lesson plan was finding the appropriate font and font size that would be easy for viewers to read my PowerPoint. Background color and design as well as font color was another challenge that I learned to overcome as I played around with the program and found color schemes that coordinated with one another.
