developmental psychologist, I am particularly interested in
developmental changes that occur during the transition to
adulthood. As a researcher working in the most diverse county in
the United States, I am fascinated with the opportunities Hawaii has to
offer in examining cross-cultural differences as well as similarities
developmental processes. My
research interests include:
and career development

A longitudinal study of mental
health, identity and career development during the
transition to adulthood. This
long-term study of adolescent and young adult development has been the
focus of my research for the past 10 years. The
goal of this project is to
explore complex, multivariate relationships among mental health,
identity, and career development during the transition to
adulthood. The focus of this study is on examining selected risk
and protective factors of adolescent adjustment and mental
health. I am also
interested in identifying longitudinal trajectories in different
development, examining long-term effects of adolescent
development, and exploring changes in the structure and direction of
inter-domain effects, particularly during the transition from school to
work. This study, funded
two consecutive grants
from the National Institutes
of Health, began in 2001. Since then, we have collected extensive
longitudinal data from a large, diverse sample of adolescents, who were
studied annually from the time they were high school juniors to young
study would not be possible without a truly invaluable help from my
associates, Reece Uratni and Tamia McKeague.
