SHINE is a service learning program in which college students tutor immigrant elders while earning college credit. It is a unique opportunity that can help participants learn many useful skills as well as provide a needed service to the elderly immigrant community.

SHINE, or Students Helping in the Naturalization of Elders, is a national program funded by the Corporation for National Service and the US Department of Education, Learn and Serve America. Hawai'i’s three sites are some of the newest additions to the national program. Students have the opportunity to choose between the three sites and then tutor a two-hour session per week at their respective site.
