Wrapping Things UpMay 04, 2012As the semester quickly comes to an end, we would just like to thank all of our members and faculty for supporting SCS. We had our semi-annual Aiea Bowl that was amazing! And although the faculty team won, there is always a chance to win next semester, students! Our 2nd General Meeting on April 26 was very productive. We were able to find a bright group of students who were willing to become next semester's SCS officers as our senior officers pass on their duties to them. Our new team of officers for fall semester will be Dayna as President, Taylor and Justice as Co-Vice Presidents, Shari as Secretary, Esther F. as Treasurer, Kenric as Academic Chair, Jaymian as Social/Recruitment Chair, and Billy as Service Chair. Welcome to the team new officers! The last event of the semester was our End of Semester party that was held today with the theme called Spring into Summer. We're glad to hear that you've all enjoyed it and we hope to bring even better events to you all in the future. All pictures of this semester's events can be located in the Events tab. EDIT: (5/15/12) As of today, the website will no longer be updated. In the future please find us on campus at George Hall, Room 326 or in the SCS Student Lounge; 2560 Campus Road Honolulu, HI 96822. Mahalo for taking interest in us and for your support. It's Bowling time!April 18, 2012Many thanks to those who attended the discussion with Dr. Manusov last Friday. We are ever so grateful to everyone who came, those who organized the event, and for Dr. Manusov for kindly taking the time off to come to Hawaii to share some of her knowledge. Thank you all for making this event possible! Pictures of the event are uploaded to the 'Events' page. This upcoming Saturday we will have our semi-annual bowling event at Aiea Bowl from 2:45PM to 5:30PM. If you wish to bowl, please come no later than 3:15PM to register to bowl or else you will not be able to play. You are welcomed to invite your family members and guests to come. Paid members play FREE, while Non-paid members, Faculty, and Guest pay $5.00. If you need a ride or can offer any rides, e-mail us at scs@hawaii.edu. Food will be provided! We hope to see you there! Having Relationship Problems?March 15, 2012Come to the workshop on April 13! Dr. Manusov, a nationally recognized scholar from the University of Washington, will be sharing her knowledge on interpersonal relationships. Some of the topics that she will cover are communication patterns between romantic partners, communication strategies to use at work, and her most recent research on interpersonal relationships. Light refreshments will be provided and the event is free! Everyone is invited, so feel free to bring your friends and any questions you have about interpersonal relationships! More information will be provided as the date gets closer. Right now we would like to thank Ms. Naomi Arincorayan for presenting her presentation on how to write and improve our resumes. We've learned a lot from her informative presentation and will apply the tools we learned from her. Thank you! We also would like to thank all the ELI/NICE students and SCS members for coming to our Bridge to Friendship event. It was a huge success. The ELI/NICE students and SCS members enjoyed getting to know each other and participating in the activites. We will definitely think about having another international event for everyone to enjoy in the near future. Photos from the most recent events have been uploaded. Please take a look at them!!! Until next time, Happy St. Patrick's Day! EDIT: (4/12/12) Click HERE for the Interpersonal Relationship Workshop flyer and for event details! We hope you can make it! Need some help with your Resume?March 05, 2012We know you do! SCS will be hosting a Resume Workshop on March 8. This workshop will be especially helpful for those graduating this semester. Please bring your resume to the workshop to make the most of this opportunity. For more information please click here for the event flyer. In other news we would like to thank everyone for their support in the SCS Valentine's day Auction. We were able to fundraise about $450 for this event! Thank you to everyone who participated in the auction and purchased our Mitsu-Ken bentos! We hoped you enjoyed the dates and the bentos!!! Pictures of the fundraiser can be found under the Event tab. We have our highly anticipated ELI/NICE Bridge to Friendship coming up on March 13 at 3:00pm. to 4:30pm. in BUSAD Room A101. The purpose of this event is to bridge friendships between international and American students. Through this event we want to build international understanding, enhance intercultural communication, promote friendship, and provide a chance for students to share common interests. In all through this, help international students practice their English speaking skills, thus giving them a more rewarding experience of living abroad and to provide an opportunity for SCS members to network and make new friends from different cultural backgrounds. This event is free and SCS will be providing food and water. In April is our Interpersonal Relationship Workshop by Dr. Manusov. More information about this event will be released in a couple of weeks. Also, there is a chance that we might have a volunteer event in between March and April. So for those of you that are trying to achieve active status, this may help you! Be on the lookout for more news throughout the upcoming weeks. Have a great day! Valentine's... Date?February 08, 2012Wow what an eventful past two weeks! Missed the events? No problem! You can check out our Events sections for all the events we've had during the semester so far. Thanks to all who generously volunteered their time to help with the Recruitment Tabling event. The semester is off at a fine start with lots of interested members who came out to meet us at the First General Meeting. And let's not forget about our awesome Beach Bash! Great food and great people.. who could ask for more? In addition to these events, is our most recent Team Course Workshop. Thanks to all those who came and RSVPed. We hoped you learned a lot and created stronger bonds with each other. GO SCS! Now with a month behind us, we are getting into one of our biggest fundraisers of the semester. SCS is holding a Valentine's Auction. Please click here for more information or go directly to our Facebook event page. If you're not interested in bidding, then there are delicious bents from Mitsu-Ken that will sold near Jamba Juice at the Campus Center as part of our fundraiser on February 13. We encourage you all to bid as all proceeds will go to SCS to support our school and community. In March we will be having Resume Workshop and ELI/NICE Mixer event. The Resume Workshop is intended to help all SCS members polish up their resume and prepare them for future career opportunities. We recommend all members, especially our graduating seniors, to sit-in and learn how to make their resume stand out. The ELI/NICE Mixer event is to help international students feel more comfortable in Hawaii as we will be conversing with them and helping them improve their English. More details on these events will be provided in the future. Please come back and check out our website often as we will be continuously updating it with more events. Stay tuned! Welcome Back!January 12, 2012Welcome back to a brand new semester! The officers have been diligently planning events especially for you!!!
