Only Begun to Live
Sherilyn Nagano

Seeking adventure and having a sense of patriotism I decided to join the U.S. Navy a year after graduating from Kalaheo High School. I hoped to see the world, become independant, and retire at age 40. Instead, I endured a back injury which led to a medical discharge early in my career. I became devastated and felt hopeless after my discharge, but fortunately I have turned a new leaf in my life. With the help from my friends, my family, and the Department of Veterans Affairs, I finally realize I have only begun to live.
