Madge, or Suriyasat Kim, is the sword-swinging, curse-bellowing hengeyokai shark who dreams of someday being a REAL pirate. |
![]() |
Q, or Ryukiu Shenokuseku, is the irrational (though not fruitlessly irrational), literate hengeyokai albatross with one leg. |

Squeak, or Tsylo, is a changeling, meaning he can shapeshift into anything he likes. His three main forms are a young Elven warrior, a grotesque ogre, and a beautiful woman named Patricia. His mission: basically, to get some dough. |
Introduction | A Brief History | Grub and Grog

Madge, Q, and Squeak all began their pirating careers as tragic outcasts: strangely ironic for
these pirates who would come to dominate the seas.

Madge, a Hengeyokai shark, also known as Suriyasat Kim, was born to a poor farming family in the eastern lands of Kara-
Tur. The last daughter of this numerous family, she was nothing more than an extra mouth to feed. As
a "solution", she was sold as a galley slave when she was twelve, to bring her family a fair
amount of money. When the ship she was on was attacked and taken over by pirates, Madge fought her way to the
deck, and hence began her pirating career at the age of fifteen.

Q, a Hengeyokai albatross known to her family as Ryukiu Shenokuseku, was born in a very different social environment,
as one of many pampered daughters of the Shenokuseku family, rulers of the island of Niguru-Ja. However,
when she was kidnapped and held for ransom by pirates at the tender age of nine, her family
refused to pay the ransom, for whatever reason--the main cause of her bitterness toward
the nobility which still stands today.

Squeak, originally known as Tsylo, was cursed with being a changeling, and dreaded throughout the
land. He took throughout his life the only slightly more desirable form of an ogre, and moved
from city to city, never stopping long enough for his true identity to be known.

Two of these three outcasts, Madge and Q, first came together in a waterfront bar in an unknown
city, about to start a legacy of infamy...
|
In a dimly-lit bar on the waterfront, a group of scruffy-looking sailors gathers in a corner, their
attention set on the figure who stands on the table over them. "So there we was, mates, on our last legs
in bloody battle on the poop deck..." The speaker, a petite woman of Kara-Tur with sharply cropped
black hair and ragged clothing, is swept up in the drama of the remembered scene. The crowd's eyes are
locked on her hands as she waves them with every word. "I'd just taken a slash to me ribs, when--
well, maybe I'd best start at the beginning...
"So, mates, which of our adventures are ye most interested in?"

A pirate's life ain't all fun an' games, mates. There's tough and sometimes bloody work ta be done. Sometimes, when the stress gets too much for us, we take the occasion to drink ourselves into oblivion. If only ye'd experienced some o' the tough times we've known, mates, ye'd understand that it ain't through poor judgement that we do this, but through necessity. We're pleased ta share with ye some o' the best recipies we know for that blessed beverage that's oft been our sole comfort on a dank and perilous voyage: GROG!
