Sean MacBride
The MacBride Round Table is a communications rights advocacy group created in 1989 to stimulate discussion of issues embodied in the 1980 UNESCO MacBride Report. This report was critical of imbalances in world information flows. Sean MacBride headed the UNESCO commission in charge of the report (Note: In Ireland, spelling for MacBride is often found as "McBride" .
The Round Table has become an international communication rights advocate with an agenda to accommodate scholars, activists, journalists and other communication experts devoted to the monitoring of world communication, legal ramifications, and information imbalances; and then disseminating its findings to community groups, UN agencies, non-governmental organizations and the news media.
Nine Round Tables have been held to date. Following the initial Harare meeting in 1989, there was Prague (1990), Istanbul (1991), São Paulo (1992), Dublin (1993), Honolulu (1994) , Tunis (1995) Seoul (1996), and Boulder (1997). The Tenth Round Table has been tentatively scheduled for 23-25 November 1998 at the Amra Forum Hotel in Amman, Jordan.
