Brief Biography
Joined the University of Hawaii at Manoa as Assistant Professor in 1967. Became Associate Professor in 1972 and Professor in 1975. Retired in 1999 and awarded Professor Emeritus March, 2000.
Served as Department Chair, Senior Fellow at the East-West Center, and Treasurer of the University of Hawaii Professional Assembly.
Research in the areas of economics, econometrics, finance, statistics, tourism, psychology, geothermal energy, and desalination. Articles published in the Journal of Finance (Stanford University), Journal of Political Economy (University of Chicago), Review of Economics and Statistics (Harvard University), and Economic Development and Cultural Change (University of Chicago). Recipient of the Eugene L. Grant Award from the Engineering Economist and selection as lifetime member of Who's Who in American Engineering.
Have taught approximately 8,000 students. Recipient of two Excellence in
Teaching Awards and pioneer in the College of Business Administration in
the application of the Internet to BUS 313 Economic and Financial
Environment of Global Business. Web page located at

Awarded research grant from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation in 1998-9
for the development of an Internet-based Membrane Desalting Plants Inventory

Currently instructor of Directed Readings/Research (BUS 399, BUS 699), member of a Ph.D. Committee, and guest lecturer on the topic "The Internet."
